OCAD

a free community for all levels of artists

I use that title at every chance I get. Thanks, Dez, for another one.

So what's the word, kids? What's everyone been up to (answers pending upon new members joining, of course)?

Currently, I've been moving around and generally putting up with being laid off a couple times due to our super economy, but other than that, same old, same old. I've been working on various writing projects that I've been doodling some character designs for, though I haven't had time for any real artistic projects for a while. Now that I'm SUPER UNEMPLOYED, that'll change, I'm sure.

In the new area that I'm in, I've hooked up with my roommate's super nerd circle, and between us, we have the potential to actually get something off the ground around here, so perhaps we shall. And OH GOD, I'm in the bay area now. Does BAAU even exist anymore?

So Dez, what's the gameplan for the new site?

I've been here for years!

I had visited the idea of using Ning for the site almost 2 years ago and created an account for it, but I wasn't happy with the state of some of their features. I have kept an eye on Ning's development since then, and felt that now of all times it would be a more appropriate tool for building up the site than anything else currently at my disposal. Hopefully everyone will take advantage of all of Ning's features, which I will point out in a post that I am drafting and hope to publish today.

I'm sure that the Bay Area is a rough place to be at the moment, but it seems like you have the right attitude about it. It's stupid to just sit around on your hands talking about how bad things are - see it as an opportunity to get back to hobbies and people that you may have been neglecting. I can't recommend BAAU enough as a resource. If you are shy, you'll fit right in. If not, heh, you've got some work to do :B I have some good memories of meets and conventions with them. I'm currently hosting their website at http://www.baau.org. I haven't spammed them about the new Ning site yet, but I will.

I've been in Austin, TX for over a year now. I haven't made any geeky friends here yet, I'm ashamed to say, but I've always been slow about getting out and socializing in new cities. Work is a bit slower than it was last year, so I've been able to pick up hobbies that I had neglected for several years, like reading and horseback riding.

Welcome back!!!
Greetings from Wisconsin. Since the ancient times of the FAHQ, I have always returned. Like a zombie.

Many huzzahs for Dez. We will build a statue in your honour.
Oh snap, artist communities still exist? ECAU sort of exists in a perpetual coma, It's like we know each other are still alive mostly, but dont find a need to really hang out, but that was kinda the way it always was anyway (because everyone's usually too broke to use the subway). :P I've been super unemployed for like 9 months now and still dont have much time for art projects. I'm actually part time now so I have even LESS time, I'm in Time debt... Negative time, it's like a bad Startrek episode.

Also why didnt OCAD just migrate to Facebook or something?
I don't know why I'd want to migrate the site to Facebook, but I can certainly create a fan page for OCAD on Facebook for those who want it.
yeah I suppose if you got your own server that makes the decision easier, and if DA didnt lure everyone into it's gaping maw, then I guess the other social networks werent going to shake the comepletely indy nature of OCAD either.
Alpha2 as well! Holy crap, man. How are you?

Did Animate Objects ever get finished?
You know that's a good question. It got to the chapter that it "ended" on and provided a slight sense of closure (kinda like a tv series that makes it to the season finale but doesnt get picked up for next year) and then Impromanga and all the other sites started to implode leaving only Centerstorm, which was hosting the orphaned pages. I was asked if the story could be allowed to continue there and I said "sure knock yourselves out" but I didn't have the time to write the next chapter so I dont think anyone else tried to either.
ALPHA IS THIS YOU?! DO YOU REMEMBER ME?!?!?!
MAMS! of course I do! Sorry I forgot to check the thread again!
wow! The Ocad! I feel like all the old sites are slowly coming back to life. I'm glad to see it return. Hopefully I'll be more active this time.
Greetings. I hang out with a couple small studios who have art jams.
Im happy to see some old faces here.

Used to be a part of this community many years ago, gone astray for a bit....

Been hanging in Entervoid and DA when OCAD's last hurrah happened in Syste.ms, from there I spend the years just building my skills up. Right now im working for a stereoscope company who does those 3d glasses gig where I use my rotoscope skills.

But on the art side, been busy trying to make comics, not to publish anymore though, ive gone to a conclusion im best off doing it online just to please readers everywhere.

Glad to see this place to come back, I would love to see some more old faces here, you guys did made me to what I am now, and even with the drama back in the days of old, I do long to hear from you bastards ( where's Daisuke...that jester loving bastard I miss you)

So yeah, let us know whats up Sis Dez, im in your disposal and ready to go. ( give me a bit of a time to launch my site though...)
